A concept of Marías has helped me through all my life is that of: trajectories.
He says: «The capital concept to understand a biography is that of trajectories, in plural; in singular it has not the same sense, because human life is not a line, but life it has more a tree like appearance, a variety of paths that begin, whether they are followed or not, whether they are interrupted or frustrated or abandoned.
Human life does not only consist in what we do, but also in what we do not do, but we could have done or we would like to do, or perhaps we start to do it and we are not allowed to follow it. This is so regarding individual life, where it has its primary sense, but also it is also true for the collective life of a society or a country.
History is not well understood if you do not use the concept of trajectories.»
